Didn't they roll back servers few months ago with the viewing GvG bug? Or am I thinking of something else?

Everyone's wrong. It was MY fault.
I tried playing a Warrior in Jade Quarry.

They took them down for maintenance but no roll back besides whatever was lost from the crashes.

Even ghetto f2p games don't do that.

Most dupes are being done through crash / DC bugs. ^^

You're not a programmer, are you. You can code and test and code and test, but nothing can prepare you for the resourcefulness of the public on a mission to break your product. And with a live team as small as GW1 has had for a while, with the limited test krewe, it's no big surprise something slipped though. Cut them some slack.
If they are doing this to squash the rumored duping, I applaud them for being so quick on it.

For a few who illegitimately play this game the whole population suffers? I don't know which version of reality this is okay but it isn't mine,

That is reality. Everywhere. Those of us who keep our noses clean will always have to suffer the trials and obstacles erected to try to hamper the cheats (TSA says hello).
EDIT: But glad to hear there was no severe roll-back.

Then they should be clear what the problem is. Simply saying "crash bug" doesn't mean much without context. Its a vastly different situation if something as serious as duping is attached to it.

Maybe they don't want to spread the word that their game is exploitable?
Probably a lot less than 1% of GW population knew about the duping. If they put it in patch notes however...

It happens. Good to see that A.net still cares about this game enough to shut down the servers when this comes to their attention and fix this.
And considering how rare server shutdowns are in GW1 compared to most MMOs (keep in mind many persistent MMOs have maintenance weekly), the rage here is kinda silly.
